BETHESDA ACADEMY

WHAT IS BETHESDA ACADEMY?

It is a brand new initiative offering quality education in the English medium to the poor and marginalized minority tribal peoples of northeastern India. The school has strong partnership links to Ballikinrain School, CrossReach (the Church of Scotland Social Care Council) in Scotland, UK.

WHY BETHESDA ACADEMY?

Minority tribal peoples in India are often alienated by education and the existing system finds itself increasingly incapable of equipping the people to deal with the challenges of contemporary society - struggle for equality, quest for socio-political identity, peace and justice etc.

The Bethesda Academy was born as a response to the needs of the people, particularly the deprived tribal children, the real 'victims of progress' who have increasingly become alienated and vulnerable in the process of ‘modernization’.

The aim of Bethesda Academy is to provide the best possible education to the underprivileged tribal children, to give hope and opportunity where there is none, to bring transformation to lives, families and communities. Through the good seed of education and love we hope one day to reap mature and committed Christians, educated and responsible global citizens, leaders of tomorrow and ultimately the transformation of society. In short, the aim of Bethesda Academy is to make education accessible to all, and in particular to the disadvantaged tribal children, for sustainable global society.

Learning at Bethesda Academy is not restricted to students only but extends to the entire learning community of teachers and staff. Learning is not simply an intellectual exercise alone but is holistic in practically embracing the complete person and community. Learning at Bethesda does not alienate people from their culture but enriches them in their own given context. Our goal is to transform students, the community, culture and society.
